Letter Counter

Count only the letters in your text, ignoring spaces, digits, and punctuation.

Count just the letters in your text. Spaces, digits, punctuation, and symbols are ignored, so you get a pure alphabetic count.

Letters are detected using Unicode letter categories, so accented and non-Latin alphabets are counted correctly.

Letters vs. characters

A character is anything you type, including spaces, numbers, and punctuation. A letter is specifically an alphabetic character. "Order #12, fast!" has 16 characters but only 9 letters. Use the letter counter when only the alphabet matters — for example, in word games, puzzles, or linguistic exercises.
